Our Fanatical Support focus gets top billing, a change that has been appropriate for years. I think our marketing team did
a great job with it. The people side of our business needs to be central to our brand and now it will be with the logo all
the time.
But, you will notice something else.
IT Hosting has replaced Managed Hosting.
Our core service remains the Managed Hosting you have always known, but our belief is that the next 10 years will see a major
shift in how companies perform IT and we plan to be a big part of it.
Couple things are pushing this trend to a tipping point:
1. Huge advances in bandwidth have made consuming computing over the web viable for on premise tasks
2. Company IT infrastructure costs are growing, much of it around just keeping things running, the maintenance of IT—non-core,
increasingly complex (do you have a virtualization or storage expert yet?) and expensive tasks
3. Hosting services are emerging as the first compelling alternative to doing it yourself or traditional outsourcing.
We think hosting (in all its forms from colocation to SaaS) will eventually become the standard way to run all of IT in almost
all businesses. The productization of IT services from centralized service providers in all forms offers companies a radically
better and cheaper way to do the maintenance pieces of their IT. Already we have customers telling us their plan is to have zero
servers and data centers in the future. They want to consume it all over the web.
We are sure proud of our traditional web hosting offers. But, we increasingly are getting internal applications from our web
customers. And, today, we formally announced our new mail division—Mailtrust.
We think hosting mail is quickly becoming the default way to do it. Our growth in this business has been tremendous and is just
getting going. We think the combination of Noteworthy and Exchange will offer businesses a great option of giving employees the
most full featured and reliable mail packages at a cost lower than they can replicate on their own. I have converted my non
Rackspace mail to Noteworthy and, like most of the approximately 700,000 other users, am loving it.
This is just the beginning. The move to IT Hosting is a 5-10 year trend and our evolution will take the same amount of time.
Virtualized platforms and cloud computing offers are around today. But, it is just the start. We think our vision of becoming
the "world's greatest service company" will be great news for businesses looking for their IT to go to the next level.
Finally, we could not do all this without our incredible customers. Almost 16,000 businesses worldwide! Your loyalty and support
is why we can keep investing in the business and building more value for you. Thank you all and keep the feedback coming.
